The highly anticipated international action film Black Lotus, with Rico Verhoeven in his first leading role, had its world premiere today in Royal Theater Tuschinski (Amsterdam). In Black Lotus, a production of the American Capstone Pictures, Rico plays his first film leading role alongside none other than Frank Grillo (Kingdom, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, Copshop) as his opponent. There are also roles for, among others, the Finnish Vikings star Peter Franzen, the French actress Marie Dompnier (Black Box), the Israeli Fauda star Rona-Lee Shimon, the Belgian actor Kevin Janssens (Revenge, Undercover, Twee Zomers), actor Magnus Samuelsson (The Last Kingdom) from Sweden, the British actor Simon Wan (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Peaky Blinders) and the well-known Danish actor Roland Møller (Atomic Blonde, The Commuter, Papillon).

Rico Verhoeven takes on the role of special forces officer Matteo Donner in Black Lotus. After his best friend died on a joint mission, he wandered the world wracked with guilt. Back in Amsterdam, he ends up in a one-man war in the streets and on the canals of the city between explosions, flying bullets and crashing cars. Donner has only one goal: to save the kidnapped daughter of his dead friend.

The film was shot at several locations in Europe, including the Netherlands. Todor Chapkanov (Viking Quest, 2nd unit The Hitman’s Bodyguard, The Expendables 4) is directing and the script is by Tad Daggerhart (The Expendables 4).
